Mr. George Paul, perhaps the oldest exhibitor among the Society's members, was at the Show in apparently good health, and he had the satisfaction of willing a Certificate of Merit for his new rambler Roses, lucens erecta. Alas! that our Shows will know him no more.

The Summer Show was held at Regent's Park on June 29th [...] A Certificate of Merit was awarded to
Rose lucens var. erecta (George Paul).—This is a bold and free flowering hybrid of R. lucens. Very vigorous. The blooms are abundantly produced in clusters, semi-double. The dark green foliage and hairy stems, together with the blush pink blooms, make the variety very attractive.

New Roses
Cerificates of merit were given to six varieties...
Rosa lucens erecta is evidently from the same cross as that beautiful free-growing The Premier which we illustrated last week. It is equally as vigorous but more erect growing, and the flowers are a bit smaller and paler. Like The Premier, it was raised by George Paul.
This variety was also entered for the Cory Cup, which will be awarded after the Autumn Rose Show to the best seedling climbing Rose of the year.
