Same plant, showing the two newest canes (left and right of the picture, in a V). The description page for this rose says "Thornless, or almost". These canes are currently thornless, or almost, in much the same way that Donald Trump is modest, or almost.
Funnily enough, the rest of the plant really is thornless.

Young plant, purchased potted from Green E Roses, on multiflora. Planted 30th June, 2016.
Seems quite vigorous. Still a bit rangy (came that way from the nursery) but is shaping up well. Size and amount of foliage has more than doubled in the three months it has been planted. No problems with blackspot. Seems near to immune.
