Origin:

Bred by Reimer Kordes (1922-1997) (Germany, 1964).
Introduced in France by NIRP International in 1964 as 'Blue Girl'.
Introduced in United Kingdom by Wheatcroft Brothers Ltd. in 1964 as 'Blue Girl'.
Introduced by Unknown (Australia) in 1966 as 'Kölner Karneval'.

Class:

Hybrid Tea.

Bloom:

Silver(y) - lilac. Flowers silvery lilac-lavender. Moderate, fruity fragrance. 35 to 40 petals. Average diameter 5.5". Very large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, high-centered bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Habit:

Bushy, few or no prickles/thorns. Large, dark green foliage.

Height: 30" to 3' (75 to 90cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 7b and warmer. Can be used for cut flower or garden. Vigorous. Disease susceptibility: susceptible to blackspot . Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .

Notes:

A 1966 reference states the parentage as 'Magenta' x unnamed seedling. Ludwig Tashner in writing an article on Blue Roses for Roseweb http://roseweb.co.za/wiki/rosewiki/index.php?title=Blue_Roses states "Messrs Kordes crossed ‘Sterling Silver’ with ‘Magenta’ and released ‘Silver Star’, ‘Cologne Carnival’ and ‘Lavendula’"
