Just thought I'd add my 2 cents in here. I've now had this climber for 6 years - nearly shoveled it years 2-3 as it grew, but only had a single mediocre flush in the spring, and nothing more. HOWEVER, the last 3 years, it just gets better and better. HUGE spring/early summer flush, several smaller ones during the hottest part of summer, and then a nice finale in the late summer early fall. Not much scent to mine, but it sure is pretty.
Also, it has surpassed the six foot mark every year (even when the canes died back to the crown) - nearly 10' - and I'm in zone 5a (north of Chicago)!

I typically mulch it approx 12" in the fall - but not always, and even at the worst, if it died back to the crown, it was well over 7' by mid August.

I'm glad it's finally begun to perform for you. Here in zone 10, it is a superb climber, remaining well within bounds and flowering beautifully. I was initially attracted to it because of the name. J&P introduced High Society and Social Climber that year and I really enjoy the name. I sold it at work (nursery) and have installed several in clients' gardens. They all report how much they enjoy it, too.

I purchased social climber 2years ago, last season was its first full flush. It was full of blooms, but rebloom was scarce. I will wait to see what it does this season, and if it doesnt do any better with reblooming i will shovel it next year. Does anyone else have this problem with Social Climber in zone 6?

JULY 19th:update:

Social climber had one great show in the end of april and has had no other blooms since, not even a bud. The rose only blooms once. I have had social climber for four seasons now and have given it every opportunity to produce the 35plus petals that Jackson Perkins says it has and to rebloom as stated in the JP descripiton of this rose. I find it all to be misleading, first of all, i have seen no more that 16-20 petals on this rose, secondly, it does NOT REPEAT!!! For this reason, i will shovel and replace this rose next growing season with Aloha Climber.

Good choice, I would say, if it's the one of Boerner. Exquisitely fragrant and..... depending of the time of the year, a wide range of colours => from light-pink to Salmon, with yellow at the base of the petals.
With several flushes of flowering, until the frost kicks in.
(I don't know the Kordes'-one.)

This rose so far has been a pleasant surprise. Is blooming heavily the second year and had little dieback in my zone 6 garden. Blooms are deep pink (slight coral influence) initially and then a lighter pink when fully open. Beautiful swirling form in initial stage and showing stamens later. Holds well as a cut. Is not supposed to be a tall climber. We will see and will also check disease resistance.
