Mme. Alice Garnier Wichurana Rambler. Origin Fauque, France, 1906. Parentage: R.wichurana x 'Mme. Charles'. Flower size 4.5cm (1.8in.). Scent Strong and fruity. Flowering: Almost constant. Height: 3m (9.8ft). Spread: 2m (6.6ft). Hardiness Zone 6. Such a pretty rose as 'Mme. Alice Garnier' should be in every garden. It is small and neat in all its characteristics, and lacks the intense vigour of most Wichurana ramblers. it is perfect for small gardens and flowers continuously. In fact, it was the first continuous-flowerng Wichurana rambler to be introduced. Its flowers are fully double with neat, quilled petals that reflex as they expand. Their overall colour is apricot, with deep terracotta at the centre, and paler, pinker edges. The petals backs are darker, so the flowers appear to fade to a much softer shade of pink as they open out. They have a delicious scent of ripe peaches and come in clusters of 3-15. The plant has dark pink stems and small, neat, glossy, medium-dark green leaves. Its long, slender, often prostrate stems will eventually reach 3m (9.8ft). And it flowers right through to late autumn.

'Mme. Alice Garnier'. Raised by Fauque. Parentage: R. wichuraiana x 'Mme. Charles' introduced 1910. Ramber. 5m. 'Mme. Alice Garnier' is very sweetly scented with small, very double, quilled blooms of medium to soft pink, sometimes with apricot in the middle. The foliage is dark, glossy, abundant and healthy, with bronze young shoots. In some ways this rose could be likened to a fatter 'Cecile Brunner' but at other times, especially when open, it does not resemble it at all. This important acquisition to the Rambler group will thrive in most posiitons and can be used for extensive groundcover work, for covering walls, banks, fences, pillars and tank-stands, and also makes an excellent weeping standard.

Mme. Alice Garnier. syn 'Brownlow Hill Rambler'. Modern, rambler, pink blend. The first part of the twentieth century found hybridizers in France creating a long list of wichuraiana climbers. This rampant Rambler bears many clusters of open, bright rose flowers with a center of yellow and light pink. the blooms are formed on long, slender branches. the flat rosettes of quilled and quartered petals have a strong fragrance of apples. It reaches 15ft (4.5m) and is covered with abundant small, dark, glossy foliage when the young bronze shoots mature. It does well in poor soil and tolerates shade. Zones 5-10. Fauque, France, 1906, Rosa wichuraiana x 'Mme. Charles'.
