Ville de Saverne (H.T.) has exceptionally large flowers of high-centred, spiralled and reflexed form, very variable in colour, crimson-pink in the bud, becoming paler with age but developing golden gleams in the petals. Growth is vigorous, erect and branching, and folaige bright glossy green. Heizmann 1937...Slightly fragrant...June-Sept. Hardy.

Ville de Saverne: Just the Rose to light up the garden in the black-out. Surely a sport from Heinrich Wendland. Try this one in place of Rote Rossem.   Colour, reds and more reds, with gold and more gold.  First-class.

Ville de Saverne: Although growth and foliage have been good, the blooms have not shown the same excellence as they did last year.

I was taken...to Mr.John Poulsen's nursery.  Ville de Saverne was evidently a favourite.  It is a free grower and bloomer.  The colour is rather like that fine Rose Catalonia, but more shapely. On looking this Rose up, I found one writer called it a sport from that variety; however, I do not think it is a sport, because the growth is so different.

p72.  J. Poulsen, Christchurch, NZ.  Southland Roses.
One of my plants of Ville de Saverne sported back to Heinrich Wendland, thus proving what I had previously suspected-that it was a sport from that variety. It is rather interesting that both Heinrich Wendland and Mevrouw G. A. Van Rossem should have given deeper coloured sports at about the same time. At their best they are both very fine colours and are attracting considerable attention.

p83.  Mr. S. J. Bisdee.  Tasmanian Roses.
Ville de Saverne: A most fascinating flower of exquisite build; vermilion red, shading yellow and pink; high pointed centre, with outside petals reflexing prettily. Grew well under difficult circumstances and foliage was healthy. I have great hopes of it.
Book  (1941)  Page(s) 78.

John Poulsen, NZ.  South Island Roses.
Ville de Saverne has proved to be superior to Rote Merv. G. A. Van Rossem in both growth and colour. The autumn colour-ing of the former has been very fine, but that of the last-named, while good in the bud stage, was rather uninteresting in the open flower.
Book  (1940)  Page(s) 90.

John Poulsen, NZ. South Island Roses
Ville de Saverne. Fair growth with good foliage. Fairly large flowers of very fine colour. A very promising Rose which will be wanted.
