I purchased this rose as a body bag earlier this year and when it flowered about a month ago the flower looked like a light purple mauve, and was no where near the red bi-color I thought it should have been. I live in Zone 8, and the rose receives at least 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight a day, and the canes are not root suckers either they are coming right off the bud union. I'm hoping that the first flower just sucked and that the next ones will be better, but it has several buds on it now and they still look purplish and not red at all. If anyone can explain this I would greatly appreciate it.

That is really strange. Im sorry I cant help you but I also live in East Texas and bought my Mississippi Rainbow about 8 weeks ago. It is fixing to bloom, and I was also wondering about the color of it. Mine however looks like it is going to be yellow with red tips! Not at all like I was expecting! I was thinking it was supposed to be more of a red with a yellow center? I guess I will see in a few days, hope your next one looks more like it is supposed to!

Thank-You so much Megan for the reply, I really appreciate it! Yours sounds really pretty, And Megan have this in mind when you see a bloom for the first time...The color of a rose that is just flowering is in my experience is not as good as it gets after it has had a few blooms on the bush. This was the first bloom, but it was such a drastic difference in color that it is actually hard to believe that it is in fact a M.R rose bush. Your bloom that you described was a lot closer to what it is supposed to look than mine and I believe that the color of your next blooms will be like they are supposed to...Unless it is affected by the heat of our location. (colors fading, ext) I'm going through a drought and my roses are suffering! My yellows look like my Garden party....They have NO color! But anyway Thanks Megan, I appreciated your reply, and you did actually help me by telling me that your rose which is in the same zone is close to the color the rose is supposed to have.
