I have had Mardi Gras for about 7 years now in my garden that can't decide if it's 4b or 5a. I don't give it any special attention and it's been very hardy for me! Love the fragrance!

Mardi Gras was ordered bareroot from Jackson & Perkins this year (2016). MG was the first to break dormancy and take off. The blooms are quite wonderful in how they change colors. It's very bright and striking. It stands out well. I haven't noticed a lot of fragrance from mine as of yet. The blooms also do not seem to be bothered by the rain, which we have had a ton of here in Houston this spring. The only negative I've found so far is that the blooms don't seem to hold on as long as other floribundas, like Black Cherry and Gene Boerner, that I have. The blooms open fairly quickly, and petals start to fall a couple of days later. Meanwhile, Black Cherry for example holds petals for about a week. Otherwise, I highly recommend Mardi Gras.

Edit 2/28/17 - Mardi Gras continues to be a great rose. It is very vigorous and blooms continually. It did have a bout of blackspot late in the season last year, but it didn't effect it too much. MG is very bushy and doesn't spread a lot. This makes for dense foliage that is unavoidable, so the blackspot is almost unavoidable...at least in Houston. The blooms, in the cooler months, often rival hybrid tea size...and it doesn't bloom in clusters as much as you would expect for a floribunda. But again, it's top 10 in my garden in overall performance.

This rose has made it through 3 winters here in my borderline zone 4b/5a garden with no winter protection. Very pretty and very fragrant.

This rose was an All-America Rose Selections ( AARS, floribunda class) winner in 2008 y.
