has anyone grown seedlings from Moje Hammarberg? I have a batch that I started from 2019 which were open pollinated, and they look like they might be large enough to bloom. not sure what to expect since there are no descendants listed on the lineage tab.
Thanks!

Hi, I know it's been a while but I'd love to learn about how those seedlings turned out. The lineage info says MH is a sport of r. Rugosa, so I wonder if MH managed to pass on its shorter stature or if the seedlings turned out larger? Were the blooms single or double? Any info would be great!

hey there. I have kept them in pots because they want to run like R. Rugosa. this may also be keeping them smaller than they want to be. I need to better evaluate them this year and I'll let you know or post pictures when they bloom.

Thank you! I'm glad to know that you were able to keep them in pots since that's how I would be growing any seedlings from her. Good to know about the runners too!

Moje Hammarberg has been a reliable "baby" producer for me, growing new roses off roots. I bought my first one maybe ten years ago at a local botanical garden plant sale and have been potting up and giving away "babies" ever since. It does tend to go into dormancy in winter and take longer to show new growth in the spring than my other rose classes (minis, floribundas, polyanthas, a few OGRs) which I found surprising since Hybrid Rugosa are known to be cold hardy. The only thing I can figure is that here in the south (North Alabama, zone 7, now zone 8??), maybe it gets too warm for them and they need a resting period? Just a guess, but mine reliably returns in the spring. I will say that the other classes I have don't tend to go dormant. We had some nasty hard freezes last winter (Dec. 2022, Jan. & Feb. 2023). Some of my roses lost more canes than usual but all came back, even the two minis that died down to soil level! (in pots)
