You give Pernet-Ducher as a possible raiser of this variety and you may be right. But a rose with this name was reported to be in Casoretti's garden in Desio (see Perpenti's 1842 "Descrizioni della citta' di Monza etc.") and Nickels lists 'Graf Taverna' in Heft3 p56 of "Cultur, Benennung und Beschreibung der Rosen" of 1845. Conte Carlo Taverna had a garden at Novedrate near Desio which was said to have been inspired by Casoretti.

Thank you! We have added the earlier hybrid china 'Comte Taverna', which was possibly already around in 1811.

Thank you very much. I hope I don't seem too pernickety but what is the 1811 reference?

No problem. The "Nomenclature de tous les Noms de Roses" refers to the "Almanach des Roses" by Guerrapain, which is from 1811. However, I do not have this publication and cannot check.
