Origin:
Bred by Pierre Tourrès (France, before 1829).
Introduced in Australia by J. Graham & Co. in 1874 as 'Microphylla Rubra'.
Class:
Hybrid Roxburghii, Species / Wild.  
Bloom:
Rose-pink to red, white stripes. [Crimson, white stripes.]  Medium, full (26-40 petals), rounded bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Tall, armed with thorns / prickles, climbing, well-branched.  Light green foliage.  7 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Can be used for specimen.  Produces decorative hips.  Disease susceptibility: disease resistant.

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

It's hard to tell from the early literature whether this is a species selection or a hybrid. See also the references to Rosa roxburghii.
