'Mady' rose Reviews & Comments

Is "Mady," spelled that way, a recognized nickname for . . . ? . . . Maddelena or the like?
On the supposition that this is a sport which occurred on the grounds of big rose nursery Gemen & Bourg which Sangerhausen heard about and obtained directly from Gemen & Bourg in 1925 (I find no trace of it actually in commerce), does anyone recognize the blossom as being one of a particular bush variety of the time?

Can’t help with the rose, but Mady is typically a nickname for Madeleine, Madelyn, etc. From the single photo, it looks a lot like Marechal Niel.

Thanks!
I was hoping to find a Madeleine in the families of Gemen and Bourg (they inter-married), but no dice so far.

It could be a nickname. The wife of Melchior Bourg was Maria Susanna Gemen (she died 1925! Memento?), her sister was called Marie Marguerite Gemen. Was one of the Maries called Mady?

Is this a possible clue from Rose-Biblio?: "The rose is dedicated to Mady Engel, a Luxemburger female-rights lawyer, after the introduction of the womens' right to vote in 1925."

Cannot confirm this dedication. A Madeleine Engel wrote about the suffragette movement in Luxemburg, but in 1991: Madeleine Engel, Die Geschichte des Frauenwahlrechts in Luxemburg, Schriftliche Hausarbeit im Rahmen der Ersten Staatsprüfung für das Lehramt für die Sekundarstufe II, Köln 1991, S. 34.
As Mady Engel she contributed to a compendium on the same subject: Mady Engel, Renée Wagener, Die Einführung des Frauenwahlrechts in Luxemburg, in: Germaine Goetzinger, Antoinette Lorang, Renée Wagener (Hrsg.) “Wenn nun wir Frauen auch das Wort ergreifen…”, Luxembourg 1997, S. 90-92.
