Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 9: 444. 1911
Native to the Guizhou, Hubei and Sichuan provinces of central China. First collected by Julien Cavalerie in 1903. Alfred Rehder thought Rosa lucidissima was a hybrid of Rosa laevigata and Rosa chinensis, proposing the name Rosa x anemonoides. Recent genetic research hints that Rosa lucidissima and Rosa laevigata are distinct species. See References.
Not known to be in cultivation in North America.
