Regarding lineage? My GUESS is South Seas x Gene Boerner or South Seas x Faberge...........Picnic is absolutely a Floribunda. Not a GR not a HT not a Mini-flora. A true Florbunda. Unlikely for Warriner/J&P in the 70's.

Remembered this one from the J&P catalogs in the mid-70's and early 80's and this year bought it as a maiden via UC Davis budwood and Steve Singer. What a happy plant! Never without bloom, the cycles are incredibly fast, it throws a few single stems but does beautifully cluster bloom. The o-r color class always did seem odd to me, the pictures in the J&P catalog were not o-r and when my maiden first bloomed, it was NOT o-r but more pb or ab? Now, here in Ohio, temps have fallen sharply and the color on the final bloom IS very close to o-r. It is a lovely variety, may lack distinction and little-ish bloomed FL's seem to have fallen out of favor long ago. First Edition would have for SURE, being AARS, been a blow to this one in sales. But Picnic is really good! My expectations were surpassed!
