Book (1928) Page(s) 64. A List of Sixty Choice Peonies of the More Expensive Varieties Pink Varieties Walter Faxon (Richardson). 9.3. This remarkable flower is at its best in the show room. If cut in the bud, and held in a dark cool room for a day or two, and then brought into the light, it develops into a flower of wonderful coloring and exquisite beauty. In color it is the most vivid of all the pinks, the only “real pink” as someone has said. A glance over a show room will disclose every vase of the flower to one who has once become acquainted with its color. The flowers are medium size and attractive form. In the fields it does not hold up as well as Souv. de Louis Bigot, which in color approaches it nearer than any other variety. For show purposes or home decoration, it is unique.
Book (1928) Page(s) 148-9. Includes photo(s). Descriptive List of Chinese Peonies Walter Faxon. (Richardson, 1904.) 9.3. Double type; medium size; midseason. Vivid shell-pink of a luminous intensity unique in peonies, which fades with age; mildly fragrant. Medium height; fairly floriferous; good stems and foliage. A fairly good flower of value for its striking color. If Raoul Dessert and Souvenir de Louis Bigot are arranged beside it, Faxon is clearly the brightest and finest. In other respects it is merely average. See color illustration. "Fades quickly in sunlight."—Saunders. "Its color makes it an outstanding variety."—Christman. "Walyer Faxon is the most distinct and outstanding pink variety when well grown and used as a cut-flower for show purposes. As a garden flower it lacks substance, fags in the sun, and is disappointing."—Little. "The plant needs age, good cultivation, and disbudding to bring it to its best. It is then superb and stands the hot sun quite as well as the majority of varieties."—Fewkes.
