Catalogue of Fruit and Ornamental Trees and Plants &c. Cultivated at the Linnaean Botanic Garden. 22nd Edition, 1823 William Prince, Proprietor Flushing, Long-Island, near New-York page 53 244. Chinese dwarf, or pompone, very small and delicate, 254. Lawrencia, the least and, most delicate of all roses,
Prince's 1822 catalogue also listed: 166 — dwarf cluster, very small and delicate.
I don't know for sure that this "Pompone" is identical with the 'Pompon de Paris', but it is worth noting that a dwarf China rose (distinguished from "Lawrencia" [sic]) was already cultivated in North America in 1822.
