Discovered by Eugène Reverchon (France, before 1897).

Bloom:
Carmine-red, white edges.  Strong, fruity, opinions vary fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), cupped, ruffled bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Tall, armed with thorns / prickles.  

Height: 39" to 5' (100 to 150cm).  Width: 3' to 4' (90 to 120cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Can be used for cut flower or garden.  Prefers cool sites..  shade tolerant.  Prune after flowering is finished.

Dedicated to André-Marie-Édouard, 5th Baron Girod de l'Ain (May 5, 1819 Gex - January 6, 1906 Paris), French politician, member of the State Council as "Maître des requêtes", deputy of the department of l'Ain (1865-1870)

'Royal Mondain' is not a synonym, but a misspelling of a similar rose ('Royat Mondain').
