Hips of R. nitida in my garden on November 23, 2023 showing curiously fleshy pedicels extending beneath the hip. But others in the background (upper left) have the typical stem attached to the hip. Also note how smooth the surface of the hip is now in the fall compared to the early June buds just after petal drop. Both photos taken 11-23-23 in the Mayacmas Mtns. near Petrified Forest, California.
