In my garden in central Texas, this rose blooms nearly a month after the main flush of other roses. Here shown May 10.

R. Setigera serena, a closer view of leaves. The largest is 3/4 in long x 3/8 in wide. it has a slight plum cast to it's reverse side; I have heard that this indicates the color of the blooms. This species needs a partially shaded, cool, moist area, or better yet, a mild climate to do it's best.

R. Setigera serena new leaves at the base of the old plant; they seem more serrated than the original ones. In the first photo of the old canes you can see an old leaf. Those leaves were very soft, and very fragile, these have more substance even though they are still young.
