Bred by Charles-Denis Souchet (France, before 1842).
Introduced in France by Victor Verdier et fils in 1843 as 'Souvenir de Dumont-d'Urville'.
Class:
Bourbon.  
Bloom:
Cerise, ages to violet-red .  Average diameter 2.25".  Medium, full (26-40 petals), globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Leafy sepals buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  Large foliage.  5 leaflets.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Honouring Jules-Sébastien-César Dumont d'Urville (May 23, 1790 Condé-sur-Noireau, Normandie - May 8, 1842 Meudon, Hauts-de-Seine), French admiral and discoverer in the Pacific and Antarctica, died on May 8, 1842 in a train accident near Versailles, together with his wife and his son, alongside with 52 other victims.
