p7. In December 2002, Nola won both the Gold and Silver Stars - a rare feat - in Trial 32 with her rose called 'Victoria Esplanade'.

p47. Peter Elliott. Trial Ground Report. Queen of the trials was local stalwart, Nola Simpson, her winning entry featuring on the TV One news. The rose called 'Victoria Esplanade', won both the Gold Star of the South Pacific for the highest pointed rose on trial, and the Silver Star of the City of Palmerston North for the highest pointed amateur bred rose. The shapely HT bloom is not large, more in the size of 'National Trust', but has very pretty metallic red elements to its colour. The bush is of medium height and would make a good garden rose while exhibitors could use it mainly in bowls and vases of five rather than as an individual specimen.

Peter Elliott. Mrs Simpson has also generously allowed naming rights of roses she has bred to worthy organisations. Examples are 'Victoria Esplanade' to celebrate its centenary in 1997.
