So far this rose has been less than vigorous for me in the Cascade Foothills or Western Oregon. It has been unusually cool this September and that may be part of the problem. It is growing in a three gallon pot, but will go into the ground next Spring (2011). It has not shown any mildew or blackspot. It's just a slow grower here.

Mine has had some die back through the 2010-2011 winter in the Oregon Cascades.

Got this response regarding variations in this species seedlings from celebrated Hybridizer, Viru Viraraghavan May, 23 2010.
"We have noticed the pink edge even in our climate so we can conclude that it is typical of the species. The pictures on HMF look like the specimen I have. I am hopeful that something useful for warm climate rose breeding can emerge from crosses with this species, as it comes from the far south of Asia in Laos Bolowens Plateau at only 600 meters elevation"
