My experience with this rose has been a bit complicated. When I learned that Dr. James Sproul had discovered a yellow sport of Fairhope I knew I had to grow the rose. I have been a big fan of Fairhope.
A couple of local rosarians indicated that their plants of Peter had produced blooms exactly like Fairhope. Kitty and Bob Belendez kindly offerd me some budwood. Their plant had been propagated from material obtained from Peter Alonso the noted Bay area rosarian. Kitty warned me that her blooms were indistinquishable from Fairhope. As predicted my 2 plants produced blooms identical to those of Fairhope. About the same time I came upon a bloom of Fairhope with significantly more yellow than the usual Fairhope blooms on a plant growing in San Juan Capistrano. Fortunately the bloom was witnessed by a noted HMF member. I propagated 2 plants from the stem. The early blooms looked just like Fairhope. As the plants matured I began to see blooms with a lot more yellow. In my eyes the blooms are quite lovely. I have posted a couple of photos.

The purpose of this note is to clarify information made in the initial posting. Kitty Belendez recently indicated that her first plant had been obtained from a commercial source and not from Peter Alonso. She also sent me a photo of the yellow sport of Fairhope propagated from a cutting that I had given her. Her bloom is identical to my blooms.
