Origin:

Bred by Charles-Denis Souchet (France, before 1842).
Introduced in France by Victor Verdier et fils in 1843 as 'Comte de Rambuteau'.

Class:

Bourbon.

Bloom:

Violet-red. Moderate, damask fragrance. Average diameter 2.75". Medium, double (17-25 petals), reflexed bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Habit:

Large foliage.

Claude-Philibert Barthelot, Comte de Rambuteau (November 9, 1781 Mâcon - April 23, 1869, Château de Rambuteau, Ozolles), French politician, prefect of the Dept. of Seine, was from 1845 member of the Cercle Général d'Horticulture, the organisation which became the Société Royale d'Horticulture. Honorary member of the Société d'Horticulture de la Seine in 1853
