I don't think it is near enough to red for a breeder to name it Bonfire.

Can those who grow "Hawthorndene Tennis Court South Rambler" please compare the timing of it and 'Excelsa'.
I am wondering if the foundling could be 'Bonfire' which was said to flower two weeks earlier than 'Excelsa'.

'Casimir Moulle' seems to fit "Hawthorndene Tennis Court South Rambler". The only trouble is I cannot find Australian references to it.

Thank you Christina. I really do appreciate your help. Paul Ploton certain did get to South Australia which is where this foundling was recovered. It was the only Australian reference that I have been able to find on a quick search.

I have read through the Helpmefind references for Paul Ploton and although a reference in 1910 (the same year that Paul Ploton came out) says the reverse is “lilac-y pink”; another 1916 reference puts Paul Ploton flowering earlier than Dorothy Perkins. I have a feeling that our rose flowers a little later, but I haven’t had it long enough to be quite sure.
Another 1916 reference says the blooms of ‘Paul Ploton’ are larger than ‘Minnehaha’, so now we need to check with ANYONE ??? who has ‘Minnehaha’ to see the size of the average bloom. My field report for my rose says the blooms are 3.75cm or 1½ wide. And if that ANYONE can also confirm that ‘Minnehaha’ has that same whitish reverse, that would be wonderful too.
