S. J. Samuels. Wondrous Ways! Next we have the "Lazy Man" who can't be bothered with the fag of hybridising (or lacks the know-how), but who will at least know the "mother" or seed parent of his rose. His method of operation is to collect ripened seed-hips from roses showing desirable characteristics for his purpose, following which he will subject them to one or other of several "after-ripening" processes, before sowing the seed. This method surely has its moments, as it was an unnamed seedling from 'Rudolph Timm' raised by the Lazy Man system, that won the Butcher Trophy, at the 1964 National Rose Show for the "best New Zealand raised seedling, not yet in commerce".
