Discovered by Andy Vanable (United States, 2007).

Bloom:
Lemon-yellow, ages to light yellow .  Mild fragrance.  Average diameter 5".  Large, double (17-25 petals), cluster-flowered, cupped-to-flat, nodding or "weak neck" bloom form.  Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Medium, bushy.  Large, semi-glossy, medium green foliage.  3 to 5 leaflets.  

Height: up to 3' (up to 90cm).  Width: up to 3' (up to 90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 5b and warmer.  Can be used for beds and borders or garden.  Vigorous.  benefits from winter protection in colder climates.  Blooms tend to ball in wet weather.  can be grown as a shrub.  prefers full sun.  Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood..  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .  Can be grown in the ground or in a container (container requires winter protection).

'Irene's Awakening' was named in memory of my late mother-in-law after the name was suggested to me by my daughter.
