The foliage of ‘Collegiate Pride’. is small, mid-green, leathery and matt, and the wood is dark with very few thorns on new growth. The very double dark red blooms of 55 petals are usually borne one to a stem; they are on the small side but can occasionally be of exhibition standard. There is some fragrance. This variety was named after St. Michael’s Collegiate School in Hobart, Tasmania. Zones 5-9. Bell, Australia 1988. ‘Melvina’ x ‘Red Planet’.
