5 to 8 feet    Z7-11 R Fr mp. The original plant of "McClinton Tea" from historic Natchitoches, Louisiana, perfumed the entire front of a small cottage garden. The robust, 7-foot tall plant had at least a dozen semi-double, bright pink, heavily Tea-scented flowers when we collected cuttings in mid-December. The reverse of the petals has a darker pink shading that adds a subtle depth to the large flower.

The other interesting rose at Almerta is known as “Almerta Orchard Pink’”. This rose on first sight appeared to be an old Hybrid Tea but, after revisiting it at different times of the year and also growing a young plant at the Repository, we realised that it was a Tea rose. We have still not been able to identify it, though it is exactly the same as the found rose known as “McClinton Tea” in California. We hope that further research here or by our friends in the United States will eventually lead to a possible identification.

Editor. Mystery Teas in Australia.
“Almerta Orchard Pink”, collected Barossa Valley, SA. May also be in Hagley, northern Tasmania. The same as “McClinton Tea” in the USA.  Darker pink at the base of the petals and on the reverses. Flowers semi-double to double, stamens visible in the open blooms. Good winter flowering. Scent is Tea with overtones of Floral Lifesavers (remember them?). Leaves narrow at first, then broaden. Well-armed on new and old wood. Sets many hips. Low to moderate height, spreading.

McClinton Tea is a beautiful Tea Rose discovered in historic Natchitoches, Louisiana. The semi-double, bright pink, strongly Tea scented large flowers feature a reverse of darker pink shading. It has been suggested that this rose may be the real Mme de Tartas or possibly the real Souvenir d’un Ami.....

"McClinton Tea", Tea. Good, reliable rebloom. Outstanding fragrance. Habit [diagram] 1. unknown, found [Provenance: Antique Rose Emporium] a poised and generous rose, with large petals, opening like a waterlily from pointed blooms, in shades of pink from deep rose to light dusky blush with great perfume. Very high on my list of the best roses in our garden. This really does have strong affinities to 'Comtesse de Labarthe' (Duchesse de Brabant') and is possibly the real 'Mme. de Tartas'.

Phillip Robinson. Tea Roses. ....next came the close observation of the other Tea roses at my disposal to see if there was a candidate for 'Adam' and/or other members of its family. "McClinton Tea", a found rose distributed by the Antique Rose Emporium, seemed to be the most likely after several years of observation.

I stumbled across a small garden on the east side of town...Mrs. McClinton promptly answered the knock on her door and cheerfully allowed me to take cuttings of a highly perfumed pink Tea which was blooming well, though it was then the Christmas season. She had rooted the plants, she told me, from cuttings given to her by a friend many years before....
