'The Yeoman' rose Reviews & Comments

My favorite rose by far. Outstanding in color, shape of blooms and fragrance. Her flowers look illuminated as though a lightbulb was shining inside of them. Very vivid and absolutely gorgeous. Not a rapid grower though. In my garden (Baden-Baden, Germany) she is among the healthier roses like all David Austin roses. It's a shame she was discountinued and is so hard to find nowadays. In my garden both examples of The Yeoman bloom in many flushes throughout the season -> in this point I disagree with the HMF description.

Buck used Austin's, 'The Yeoman' in his breeding work.
See 'Distant Drums', 'Country Song', etc. This listing is undoubtedly superfluous.

This rose was apparently discontinued by David Austin due to lack of vigor and susceptibility to disease. I have grown it at two different locations in California, and it seems to enjoy this climate. I have never smelled another rose that has quite the delicious suprise of myrrh fragrance as this rose. Truely intoxicating! It does have a predisposition to rust, unfortunately, but it is a great rose.
