Its a strange plant. It sends out very prickly, arching canes with wrinkled foliage, then thornless laterals of blue and very fragrant leaves. Nice fall color. I see a bud, but I doubt it will ever open.
Hey, Robert! Did anything interesting come from those 'DLFED 3' hips I sent you? I also wanted to add that my 'DLFED 3' plant will have scattered repeat if deadheaded and pruned after hips start to form.
I was disappointed that I didn't get good germination and the ones that did were disease prone. I'd love to give it a try again if you find yourself with extra seed some time.
Kim, or anyone else with this rose, how does the moss smell like?
The Fedschenkoana smell is from terpenes, so is the classic moss scent if I remember correctly. Also, the glands that produce them are often on trichomes even on the leaves (the funny Scarlet Moss leaves are an extreme example) rubiginosa has the same production area too. So, I presume the moss smells like the foliage. Am I correct in thinking so?
Also, I read that the sweetbriar trichomes are to prevent rust. Does anyone in Rust Country able to verify?
