Mauve or purple blend.  Flowers lilac-pink, lighter on the edges.  Strong fragrance.  Medium bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:

Height: up to 4' (up to 120cm).  Width: up to 3' (up to 90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 8b.  Prune after flowering is finished.

DNA analysis has shown a close relationship with 'Officinalis'. - see References.
Question about breeder: Verrier says Godefroy, France, 1820; Phillips & Rix say 1829; Joyaux says DuPont, 1813, Dickerson says Holland. Pépinières Loubert says Holland pre-1806. However, latest research indicates Daniel August Schwarzkopf as breeder. See References for more information.
