Hayden Foulds. One of the projects in the lead up to the convention has been the selecting and naming of the official convention rose. The convention committee selected a seedling from New Zealand rose breeder Rob Somerfield, a floribunda with lavender pink blooms with a tinge of fawn. It is bred from 'Anniversary' x 'Sky Tower', two NZ bred roses. Under its code name Somlinone, it received a Bronze Medal at the Adelaide trials in 2009 and has been released in Australia as 'So in Love'. It also topped the NZRS trials in 2006 by winning the Gold Star of the South Pacific. Following a competition to select a name in 2012, the name 'Pacific Glory' was chosen. This name was entered by Derrol & Helen White who are long time members of the Northland Rose Society. 'Pacific Glory' has been planted in both the Rogers Rose Garden in Hamilton and the Dugald Mackenzie Rose garden in Palmerston North. Its first commercial release here will be at the convention.
