Origin:
Bred by Samuel McGredy II (United Kingdom, before 1923).
Introduced in France by Grandes Roseraies du Val de la Loire in 1923 as 'Vesuvius'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1924 as 'Vesuvius'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Scarlet - crimson, golden-yellow stamens.  Blooms shaped like California poppies. Opens slowly, initially cupped, petals stiff and lasting.  Moderate, sweet fragrance.  Average diameter 3.25".  Medium to large, single (4-8 petals), cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long buds.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy, dense, upright.  Light green, leathery foliage.  

Height: 29" to 39" (75 to 100cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Vigorous.  rain tolerant.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.
