'Tenistaja Riga' rose Reviews & Comments

The correct name of this rose is spelt 'Ombrée de Riga', a Gallica cross bred before 1834. "Shady Riga" in other words. See A.A. Galichenko, http://kajuta.net/node/1266.

The referred article http://www.kajuta.net/node/2114 translates the rose as 'Ombre de Riga'. We have followed the text, even if Ombrée might be a more correct translation.

Yes, that's where you were misled. Galichenko's article cited by me reproduces the original 1834 data. As I recall, the conventions of rose naming privilege the earliest given name. In this case we have it in the breeder's own handwriting: Ombrée de Riga. It is not a translation. It is a correct transcription.
