'Academy' MACgutsy - McGredy 1982 ('Anytime' x 'Matangi'); handpainted cream edged orange/pink; 49 reports; 71 bushes; 1-6 years; 55cm; 7.0 rating. There would appear to be a love or hate feeling amongst growers of this rose, or there could be two strains being sold - the first and best with good strong colour, the others producing insipid dull blooms. The later colouring is reported mainly from our southern areas. The bush is prolific and repeat is good, with blooms opening flat, with scalloped petal edges, with some fading. Some found their plants slow to establish, but all say it grows well and strongly and is of good health. A mini of unusual colouring arid worth growing for display in your garden.

'Academy'. MACgutsy; McGredy 1982. ('Anytime' x 'Matangi'); hand-painted, cream edged orange/pink; 12 reports, 26 bushes; 1-5 years; 50cm; 7.1 rating. Reporters from South Canterbury and Otago rate this mini around 6.0 while North Otago, West Coast and the remaining reporter from the North Island, like it saying the blooms open flat and give a good display, with some fading. Some feel the petals hold on a bit long. Repeat is good, blooms last well when picked and health is good. A good vigorous mini, probably best in the North Island or hot, dry areas.

'Academy': MACgutsy; McGredy 1982; cream edged salmon; 14 reports; 16 bushes; 2-5 years; 50cm; 7.1 rating. Only one bad report, because the colour is "wishy-washy" and the form poor. Auckland says it is healthy, repeat is fast and it makes a wonderful display. From Kaitaia to Otago this mini is well regarded for the amount of bloom, repeat, unusual colouring and general health. At times it tends to grow too tall for a true mini bush.

'Acadamy'; McGredy 1982; cream, edged salmon; 13 reports; 15 bushes; 1-4 years; 50 cm; 7.5 rating. Reports from Kaitaia through to Otago and only Canterbury feels it is a waste of space. The far north finds that it grows and flowers well and has good colour. Franklin thinks the petals hold on too long. Wairoa says repeat is fast, the blooms come in good sprays on a bush that probably grows a little too tall. Wellington reports that the petals are scalloped, quite attractive and, when grown hydroponically, the colour is apricot! A good healthy Mini.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses in 1985-86 Season.
'Academy': McGredy 1982; ('Anytime' x 'Matangi'); cream, edged salmon; 5 reports; 7 bushes; 3 years; 50 cm; 7.2 rating. Auckland, Manawatu and Wellington all quite like this attractive Mini., but Christchurch says the blooms are very insipid. In Auckland and Wellington it can take rust and powdery mildew. Wellington finds the blooms are weatherproof. Quite an attractive wee bush for most.

'Academy'. 2 reports, 2 bushes, 2 years, 40 cm. 8 rating. Franklin and Gisbome report on this new release with cream edged salmony pink blooms, and good textured petals. The blooms are long lasting. The plant is healthy and the whole when in bloom most attractive.
