Heathcliff rose is of a mesmerizing beauty sparkling through the frivolous petals , gemstone like ; a rich red mingled with a definite jot of purple and violet . I never ever saw the true beauty of this rose until in real life ; a photograph will give you the cold coloured shoulder . I would rename it 'Prince of Persia'
A pretty, lush looking rose with nice color and form under good conditions, but it doesn't take damp coolness at all nor does it seem to take full sun and heat especially well, though it takes this much better than the wet and cool conditions. Its not an intensely fragrant rose. It is not stingy, though it is by no means a bloom-machine.The canes are quite thorny and the bush is a wee bit on the sparse side (but not too badly). It is a rather healthy plant (it is a young plant with a full growing season since planted). Time will surely tell if this rose outgrows its overall acceptable average-ness and on into greatness. I would not replace it at this point as it has not exactly disappointed me... It is not without its merits, but its not perfect.
