'Desert Glow' rose References
Book  (1987)  Page(s) 106.

Don Sheppard. Final Analysis 1986-87. Hybrid tea. 'Desert Glow'. Martin 1981. salmon-red, 12 reports; 12 bushes; 1-6 years; 1.5m; 6.1 rating. Not widely grown and few reports. Generally found to be "not much chop", even if the colour is good, bright and cheerful. It is not unduly troubled by rain as petal texture is good. One or two reporters say it is a good garden rose, but should be sold as a floribunda.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1985-86 Season. Hybrid Tea. 'Desert Glow'. Martin, 1981; red-orange; 3 reports; 5 years; 1.5m 7.4 rating. Northland reports that, after an excellent first year, their bush's health is deteriorating. Rotorua writes of excellent petal texture, one bloom per stem, but not enough for a vigorous bush. Central Taranaki reports medium sized blooms, whose colour is good, on a healthy, tall bush. Evidently, a reasonable garden cultivar.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1984-85 Season
'Desert Glow' Martin 1981 Coral pink. 7 reports covering 7 bushes grown 1-4 years. 1-2 metres in height. 7.1 rating. This is the first year we've had a reasonable number of reports to make this worth writing up. North Otago say it to be just a fair rose; Christchurch record poor bloom form, good colour, just a fair rose; Rotorua report it to give long lasting blooms on long stems, good repeat, on a healthy bush. Both reports from this area like this rose. The West Coast, South Island, report very good blooms of excellent colour, making the bush really stand out, but they feel it to be a better Floribunda than an HT. More we cannot say, but in at least three places, Taranaki, Rotorua and Westland it is recommended.

Egmont Roses advertisement. 'Desert Glow'. HT. A vibrant rose of coral pink deepening at the petal edge, with a glowing salmon-orange centre. The well shaped blooms are carried on long stems and the plant is tall and disease resistant. Martin, 1981.
