This rose is wonderful, but blackspot prone in my conditions (zone 6a, Central Europe). Does anyone know any healthier variety with similar appearance? Thanks.

Betty Prior is a substantial bush. It isn't very tall (about 4 to 4-1/2 feet), but very bushy, wide, and thick-stemmed at the base. Contrary to the information on this website, I do not recommend growing this in a container, especially in warmer climates, unless the gardener has a weight-lifter friend. It has little, if any, fragrance. Another bit of erroneous information: the website states that Betty Prior is winter-tender. This is untrue. This is a tough, extremely hardy rose. I live in zone 7; our summers are hot and often drought-prone. Winters are unpredictable. They can be mild for a couple of years in a row and then brutally cold and icy for another few winters. Betty Prior survives them all with no dieback. I have also made lovely floral arrangements with the flowers--very striking and different in the vase. This is a wonderful, carefree shrub.

I bought this girl as my first bare root--on sale. Didn't know a thing about her. All my roses are in containers--and believe me you better have a BIG container. I have her in a large size metal washtub with drain holes drilled. She is really big and just covers herself with flowers and blooms all through our HOT summers. Right now in late March she is solid bright pink--really fantastic. I really lucked out with this girl! If you get her, be sure you have room for her though.

I began growing this floribunda in 03 and it is amazing! It blooms continuously until New Years in the Silicon Valley, CA. It is quite colorful and gay, as it puts forth many buds that are in all stages of pink tones!! I have even grown more from its cuttings!!!! It gives the 'cottage look' up against a white picket fence. There is only a slight scent. --K Haas
