Il passo successivo lo porta all’ibridazione programmata e, tra quelle prime varietà, Borgatti ancor’oggi riconosce la sua più bella in “Jacqueline Mennrath”, la rosa che è al centro di una patetica storia. Eccone i tratti essenziali: una giovane sposa alsaziana perde tragicamente la vita a Saverne; un’amica della scomparsa vede la foto di una rosa che Borgatti ha presentato quell’anno al concorso-novità di Saverne ed ottiene che venga dedicata alla giovane scomparsa; sarà la prima varietà italiana premiata con medaglia d’oro in quel concorso. Purtroppo, oggi si ha la quasi certezza che neppure un esemplare della “Jacqueline Mannrath” sia scampata alla guerra, alle crede gelate alsaziane e all’incuria giustificata dai tempi calamitosi che seguirono

The next step takes him to planned hybridization and, among the first varieties obtained, Borgatti recognizes “Jacqueline Mennrath” as his best. To this rose is related a sad story: a young Alsatian bride tragically lost her life in Saverne; a friend of hers saw a photo of a rose that Borgatti presented that year to the Saverne Rose Trials and had it dedicated to the perished young woman; that will be the first Italian variety awarded with gold medal in that Trials. Unfortunately, today we know almost for sure that not even a specimen of “Jacqueline Mennrath” survived the war, the hard alzatian frost and the neglect justified by the calamitous times that followed.
