'Marie Lambert' rose Reviews & Comments
-
-
I moved my 'Marie Lambert' in late 2022 (October-ish, IIRC). The original spot I had planted it in turned out to flood sometimes, and consequently ML was sulking. One result of the sulking was that it seemed to have lost its delicious and distinctive scent. The flowers still looked the same, but didn't smell of anything much.
It took a while to get over being transplanted and find its feet again, but I'm pleased to report that it's now going quite nicely and the scent is back to the way it should be. I have noticed this with a few other roses as well, in that if they are not happy they tend to lose their scent.
The soil at my place is naturally acidic, and ML is currently in an old bath tub that is filled with potting mix and compost that has a (more or less) neutral pH. This seems to suit it better. I might try liming up a few of the other roses that are in the ground, and see if this helps them.
-------------- -------------- -------------- -------------- PS: I notice that the information I posted back in 2021 has still not made it to the nursery listings for this rose. Ross Roses have 'Marie Lambert', listed as ''Snow Flake'', in their complete web variety PDF, on page 9.

"Tea Roses: old Roses for Warm Climates" suggests that the rose known in Australia as 'Marie Lambert' is known as 'Ducher' in some parts of the US. The description and pictures of either on HMF closely match.

Ross Roses have 'Marie Lambert', listed as ''Snow Flake'' (in their complete web variety PDF, page 9). This was the name that Thomas for Roses used to sell it under.

Updated information: A keeper. May get more. Bush naturally takes a good shape, with ample and healthy foliage that it hangs onto no matter what. Flowers are fairly small, but gorgeous and deliciously scented, and are produced in good quantities.
If you want a white rose that will make a good garden shrub without requiring any fussing over it, this one is well worth considering. Also ok as a cut flower. Will last a few days.
