Could this rose and Sweet Spot Calypso be the same.
Quite often in the marketing by Tesselaar like (urls seem to not be able to made in comments?, replaced the . with spaces) www grownups co nz/life/gardening/rose-month-november-sweetspot-calypso/
Note the "Photos courtesy Anthony Tesselaar Plants" that potted image is the same as on
www interplantroses nl/assortment-roses/garden-roses/babylon-eyes-roses/sunshine-babylon-eyes
I also suspect Sweet Spot Yellow and Glorious Babylon Eyes of being the same
The 4 Sweet Spots came from a trial of 22 interplant roses, slide 10 www slideshare net/pridescorner/sweet-spot-roses
No idea about Peach or Ruby

Thank you Plazbo. The same photo was telling. I’ve merged ‘Sunshine Babylon Eyes’ and ‘Sweet Spot Calypso’...... and ‘Sweet Spot Yellow’ and ‘Glorious Babylon Eyes’.

Seems to be a bit of a slow burner, it's doing much better this year than it has in the past. No sign of PM so far. No where near as awful as it was when I first got it, now it's fairly average health wise compared with most moderns. It was really awful initially though, seems to need time to develop it's root system or cultivate beneficial bacteria around it's roots or something.
It's seedlings still have a really high mortality rate but still have the 3 OP seedlings mentioned earlier and are putting on new growth that looks healthy so far. I believe there's some breeding worth/potential (although if working with tetraploids there's better options) but it's probably a numbers game (in needing to grow a lot of seedlings because the vast majority will die).
-edit 22 Oct 2018- I spoke too soon....around 33% of the plant is experiencing BS.
-edit 3 Nov 2018- and completely defoliated apart from the very new growth, a lot of the older stems are dying back too.
I don't know how I feel about this plant, it's very up and down, when it's good it's very good but when it's bad.....total roller coaster every season.
If I weren't transitioning to work more in the diploid area, I'd probably be less kind to this plant.

Sets hips. Pollen released freely and in good amounts. Needs a mildew resistant partner as it has more mildew than rose.

It sounds like we had similar experiences with mildew and this rose, after a few months the mildew disappeared for me. Given you made the comment over a year ago have you experienced similar with the mildew disappearing or did it return?

It cleared up once in the ground where it could get a more reliable source of water.Black spot is now the major issue. It completely defoliates. Seedlings from it also mildewed badly.. with no real excuse. Carefree Beauty x Calypso mildewed badly despite never fully drying out.

Woo! Something to look forward to! It hasnt had blackspot for me but I rarely get even a little bit of it (and even then it was on ebb tide which is apparently resistant so who knows).I do have a bunch of seedlings of it that are a few months, no mildew yet but given how bad it was I think it's just a matter of time.

So I planted a lot of the op seeds from it and can see what you mean about it's seedlings being mildewed.
Pretty good germination rates but a lot look terrible being all powdery white/dying. There are a few that have flowered (but not of the plants look healthy) with decent first blooms but the mildew.... Crossing it with some rugosa and have a pod with golden cheronese and a few with r.glauca that look good so far...obviously going to require a bit of work. If it weren't for the mildew the plant would be pretty decent.
-edit- 28 April So of the roughly ~50 OP seedlings, only 3 remain at ~approx 1 year from germination. They seem to be healthier (but not perfect) so far but aren't remotely vigorous. One is a semi double deep yellow with slight red overlay, no sign of BS or PM, of significant interest to me. The other two just look like SSC, one is mildly fragrant and has some slight BS on a leaf or so (so far) the other has slight PM (and only keeping around to see if it grows out of it when it matures a bit).

Introduced into Australia by Tesselaar, 2015, with 'Sweet Spot Calypso'.

And terrible for blackspot in my area of NSW. More often than not it just has pretty blooms on bare stems!

It's a mildew magnet here in Sydney also. I've got two dozen different types of roses and I've never encountered this issue before. Looked fine for the first 2 or 3 weeks, bloomed nicely and then all of a sudden the leaves were all covered in white overnight. I've been spraying it but it's not really solving the problem. Rose shouldn't have been released to the public, it's obviously not fit for gardens.
edit April 19th 2017. It's been a few months, since I made this comment and while I did spray a bit early on (temporarily lessened the appearance of mildew) it seemed to disappear and not come back after I stopped spraying...may just be a stress response thats disappeared now that it's better established, I have sprayed since december and haven't seen any mildew since february. It was a crazy amount of mildew when I made the comment so very surprised it's essentially vanished now.
Edit 25 Oct 2017 and it's mildewing again. Not as bad (yet anyway) but still pretty obvious.
