Margaret Furness.  A Found Remontant. "Euroa Pale Pink
Euroa Pale Pink” was collected (rustled?) quite a while ago by Robert Peace from a town in Kelly country, and passed on to Pat Toolan. It is now in the Mornington Botanical Rose Garden (I’m not sure the locals will be grateful). It is assumed to be a Hybrid Perpetual, and grows like one, but is without scent. It’s upright to about 1.2m in my clay, with moderate prickles, and some black spot. “Euroa Pale Pink” doesn’t set hips in my garden, and I haven’t seen normal maternal reproductive parts in it.  In the bud stage “Euroa” is exquisite; cream with soft pink edges, like mother-of-pearl, and a good shape. But approaching fully-open it goes downhill. It can reach 18cm across, and by that stage is usually ugly and often disorganised. To be fair, some classic roses are best in the bud stage (Ophelia and Talisman come to mind), but after that they just become uninteresting, to me. “Euroa” gets coarse. And it doesn’t self-clean.  What do you do with a rose like that? If I were more diligent about deadheading, I wouldn't get attacks of wanting to hoick it.
