'Red Captain' rose Reviews & Comments

True Love is part of the Altman Nurseries True Bloom series, which has been heavily commercialized at Home Depot and Lowes the past few seasons. They usually deliver an assortment of varieties, and they have the distinctive True Bloom pots. True Love can be found amidst the other varieties, but it tends to get snapped up quickly. It's worth checking back, because HD and Lowe's tend to get several True Bloom deliveries per season. It's a series that seems to have eclisped Knockout in recent years in terms of volume at these two big box stores.

This has proved to be all around excellent plant for me. The bush stays very tidy and full with dense foliage. The blooms are individually very beautiful, like a mini Austin or Florentina, with thick refined petals and often quartered rosettes. It is very colorfast, long lasting and has rich red red blooms . Repeat bloom has been excellent, and the flush looks good for a very long time. I find it 1000 times more beautiful than Petite Knock Out. Alas, no fragrance, but otherwise a really great variety.

"Variety denomination: `ALTcaptain`.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The new Rosa cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the inventor, Peter Ping Lim. The objective of the breeding program was to produce vigorous new garden rose varieties with continuous blooming for ornamental commercial applications. The cross resulting in this new variety was made during May of 2013.
The seed parent is the variety Rosa `KORsailer`, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 11,147. The pollen parent is the unpatented variety Rosa `P9001R`. The new variety was selected in 2014 by the inventor in a group of seedlings resulting from the 2013 crossing, in a nursery in Vista, Calif."

Several online sources verify the code name as the same rose as its common names.
