Northwestern Ontario, Canada, USDA Z2 This rose does extremely well in my garden with no winter protection. It blooms constantly but I find that it doesn't like being dry - seems to need consistent watering.

Can anyone tell me whether Carefree Wonder can handle a somewhat lower light setting, specifically a few hours full sun plus a few hours dappled sun per day? Will it still bloom profusely in that setting? This would be in zone 9, in case that makes a difference. Thanks.

Liz Druit (in her book "The Organic Rose Garden") lists this rose as having good shade tolerance, as well as two out of three stars for fragrance.

My Carefree Wonder is still young, as I got it by mail order last autumn, and still have it in a 1-gallon pot. But I love the color of the flowers so far. I'm always looking for flowers that add a bright, cheerful color to the yard, without being overly dark or intense, nor too pale. My Carefree Wonder has a bright medium pink color that almost seems to glow, yet without being too intense. I can't wait to see how it looks when it gets bigger.

Nothing special required. I've had it in MAssachusetts for 6-7 years, and it gets better every year. Bigger, bushier, stronger, explosive large flowers, no scent. I have ordered more from Roasarie at Bayfield and been disappointed with what they sent. Be sure to get the "shrub" version. For care, I fertilize a once or twice in the spring. Its pretty disease resistent, tho will draw aphids. Lots of water, naturally.

I agree, this is a great rose. I have one growing in southern California for 5 years. It hasn't gotten too large, which can be a problem in our climate, and even though it is now shaded more than I would like, it continues to pump out blooms. The beautiful pink flowers change color as they age. It is very disease resistant too.
