Barry and Allegra, thank you for your nice comment on "oshun".
I found this rose in the "The Uncommon Rose" Site and I really have been fallen in love with it. Unfortunately I´am living in Germany and Oshun is not distributed outside the United States. So tell me, do I really miss something? Is that rose still as good as described it? Kind regards, Anne

Oh Anne, a million apologies for the delay in answering this. For some reason in my laptop the bottom part of this page disappeared and not until today I found it. Better late than ever I guess... and I hope you forgive me.

Oshun is to die for! I have found that so far all the roses we have bought from The Uncommon Rose are to die for so this is truly a "department of redundacy department " comment ;-) I don't know if you can send any cuttings without soil to Germany, I must look into that. Perhaps if legal I could contact them and see if they are willing and able to send you a bareroot plant or some such. Let me know, I am in no way associated with that nursery but I like their customer service a lot and I am sure they are willing to help if they can.

Again, a thousand pardons for the delay and I hope you get this message, late as it may be.

Barry and Allegra, thank you for sharing your garden with your amazing photos. There is one rose in a vase in front of a white statuette that is posted under Photos of this Garden. Can you tell me something about it? I live in Santa Rosa, CA, and this rose looks very similar to mystery climber rose in my garden.

Also, wanted to let you know that your website address leads to something other than your garden, Blue Sky TEX Systems.

Hello Donna,

that particular rose in front of a statue of Kwan Yin is none other than a very young
Abbaye de Cluny. It was the very first bloom and it was so radiant that it seem to me it was lit from within ;-)

Do you have any photos of your climber? I am asking this because in looking at the photo again to see what which one were speaking of, it reminded me of another one that seems to glow from within, E.Veyrat Hermanos.

After most of my life growing roses I am finding more and more that indeed both climate and temperature make certain roses look quite different from each other depending upon the place where they are planted.

Unfortunately this year - once again - the weather has conspired to deprive us of the
long awaited first flush. The rains have been horrible here and most of the beauties are now balled and covered with botrytis, so as soon as the sun comes up we will be out there doing a very unseasonal pruning to get rid of the problem. If you have a photo
of your climber and you are willing to share it, please send it to me at

theoldrosarian@bluesky.com

and I will be happy to help with what little I know to try and find out, if I can, what your mystery rose may be. Here is a photo of the one and only bloom we managed to steal from the weather. E.Veyrat Hermanos in its infancy.

Thank you again for your kind comments and by the way, a glitch when we changed servers threw the portal of our website - it needs plenty of revisions so it is not up - somehow out of its place and put instead our business portal there. Thank you, I will make sure that is taken care of right away.
