Rosa gallica L., aculeis truncorum hornotinorum confertis, inaequalibus, majoribus e basi dilatata compressa subulatis, subfalcatis, minoribus setaceis; ramulis setis glanduliferis laxe dispositis, caeterum inermibus v. aculeis raris rectis v. paullo curvatis; stipulis adnatis; floribus 1—3 terminalibus; calycis laciniis pinnatifidis, demum deciduis. Frutex humilis, circiter ½, M. altus. Ramuli glabri v. puberuli v. tomentelli, glandulis breviter stipitatis vestiti, inermes v. aculeis subulatis plus minus recurvis sparsis aculeati. Stipulae explanatae, in auriculas divergentes apice excurrentes, glandulosae. Petioli rhachesque glandulosa,
caeterum inermia v. aculeolis paucis armata, puberula v. tomentella. Foliola saepissime 5, rarius 3 v. 7, rigida, elliptica usque ovato-subrotunda, obtusa v. acuta v. acuminata, simpliciter v duplicato-dentata, utrimque glabra v. subtus plus minus pubescentia. Pedunculi setis brevibus v. longioribus glanduliferis plus minus dense vestiti. Calycis tubus setoso glanduliferus v. rarius glaber. Calycis laciniae pinnatifidae, in acumen tenue v. apice dilatatum crenatum excurrentes, margine saepissime glandulosae, dorso setuloso-glanduliferae v. pubescentes, intus dense pubescentes, corolla breviores, demum caducae. Styli liberi, in columnam approximati v. toti dem liberi, stamina aequantes v. iis breviores. Baccae subglobosae, glabrae.

Rosa sericea.....
a. typica; glabrous branches, pink five-petalled blooms. R. sericea Lindl. Ros. mon. p.105, tab.12. [Lindley possibly had not seen a bloom, as he pictures a light pink, 5-petalled single; Regel propagates the error as R. sericea typica]
b. tetrapetala; glabrous branches, white 4-petalled blooms. R. sericea Royle ill. tab.42, fig. 1. R. Wallichii Tratt. Ros. II.193. [= R. sericea var. omeiensis]
c. Hookeri; branches downy-glandulous, blooms white, 4-petalled. R. sericea Hook. bot. mag. tab. 5200. [= R. sericea var. sericea]
d. subinermis, branches unarmed to armed with scarce prickles.
Habitat in Gossan-Than (Wallich), in the Sikkim Alps (Thomson) and south-western China in the Kansu province (Przewalski).
