[From the article "Die Rose und der Winter" (The rose and winter) by Rudolf Geschwind, p. 371-379:]

What concerns the Hungarian climbing roses, they have endured the frost almost all better than the French ones. As especially hardy have proved themselves: Erinnerung an Brod, Aurelia Liffa, Corporal Johann Nagy, Geschwinds Orden, Aennchen von Tharau (almost the hardiest!) Erlkönig, kleiner Postillon, Fantasca, Amneris, Nymphe Tepla, Schloss Luegg, while the others have suffered more or less. Now some words about the so-called hardy Teas. No true Tea is absolutely hardy.

As a curiosity four multicolour varieties have been included: the Tea rose Amando Casado (Pries), rosy-white - yellowish pink marbled; the hybrid tea Madame Angélique Veysset (Veysset), a sport of La France, even more floriferous than this and the pink colouring striped and shaded with bright red....

15. American Beauty (Hybrid Perpetual; Hon. G. Bancroft. Commercialized by Geo. Field & Bro. 1885). Large, spherical, deep pink flowers shaded with carmine and with a delicious smell. There is a veil over its origins, and many consider it to be an old rechristened variety (Ferd. Jamain). In any case, its good qualities were previously unknown, but now it has become one of the most popular roses in America.
