Next to 'Comtesse Elisabeth Worontsow' grows another climbing rose, not less ancient than the former. About ist origin and Name, various experts have proposed many hypotheses in the last years, but a Consensus has not yet been reached. Some believe that this is the rose 'Maréchal Niel' created by Pradel in France...Others suggest that it is the once-famous 'Alupka', whose authorship is controversial. It could be Nicholas von Gartvis, or Karl Kebach, the head gardener of the Vorontsov estate, who found it as a sport of an old variety.

...probably the most valuable Thing in Alupka are two roses breed by Nicholas von Gartvis, director of the Nikita Garden. Year bred - 1833. One is supposedly called 'Belle de Nikita'...It is located on the lower terrace under the retaining wall on the south side - the same place as 'Président de Seze'. This is a climbing China variety with the scent of tea rose. However, the factual accuracy that this is the Beauty of Nikita cannot be determined with precision. The description of the rose by Gartvis and the pre-war arrival of the variety in Alupka in the Nikita garden gives us reason to assert this.
