Die Damaszener: Rose (Rosa damascena) wovon wir Tab. XXXII. Fig. 44. 45. 46 Abbildungen lieferten, führt auch den Namen Monats-Rose, ist im mittågigen Europa zu Hause, und erfordert keine besondere Behandlung. Wenn man sie zu verschiedenen Zeiten beschneidet, daß sie vom Stamme aus frisch treiben muß, so kann man ihre Blüthezeit nach Gefallen reguliren; auch eignet sie sich zum Treiben als Stubenrose besser, wie fast eine jede andere, verliert aber ihren Geruch.

The Damask Rose (Rosa damascena) of which we have Tab. XXXII. Fig. 44. 45. 46 illustrations, also known as the Monthly Rose, is at home in mediterranean Europe, and requires no special treatment. If they are pruned at different times so that they have to sprout fresh from the stem, their flowering time can be regulated at will; it is also better suited for forcing as a house rose than almost any other, but loses its scent.

Eine ganz vorzüglich sich durch ihren angenehmen und vollen Geruch auszeichnende Rose, ist die unter dem Namen blattreiche Rose (Rosa bracteata) bekannte. Sie stammt aus China ab und erfordert eine ziemliche Wärme, unsere kräftigen Winter hält sie im Freyen nicht aus.

A rose that is distinguished excellently by its pleasant and full-bodied smell is the rose that is known as the leafy rose (Rosa bracteata). It comes from China and requires quite a bit of warmth, it cannot withstand our strong winters. outdoors.

Die gelbe Rose (Rosa sulphurea) kommt zwar sehr leicht fort, ist aber nicht besonders beliebt. Ihre Blumen haben das Unangenehme, daß sie gern auseinander schlitzen, und zuweilen gleichsam in zwey hälften blühen. Man hat vorgeschlagen, diese, um sie vor dem Zerplatzen zu sichern, mit einem leichten Tuche zu bedecken; allein, dieses scheint auch nicht viel zu helfen.

Translation:
The yellow rose (Rosa sulphurea) is easy to grow, but is not particularly popular. Their flowers have the unpleasant fact that they like to slit apart, and sometimes bloom in two halves, as it were. It has been proposed to cover these with a light cloth to keep them from bursting; alone, this doesn't seem to help much either.

Eine andere sehr angenehme Varietät der Centifolie ist die Jungfern-Rose (Rosa centifolia minor), auch Rose des Dames genannt; die Blumen stehen alle an den Spitzen der Zweige, gleichsam einen doldenförmigen Strauß bildend, zu 5 bis 7. Man trifft sie dunkler und heller, weiß und roth gestreift, auch ganz weiß an. Tab. XXXI. Fig. 41. 42. 43.

Another very pleasant variety of the Centifolia is the Virgin Rose (Rosa centifolia minor), also called Rose des Dames; the flowers are all at the tips of the twigs, 5 to 7 alike, together forming an umbel-shaped bouquet.
